SOUTH AFRICA: ELEPHANT WHISPERS
With Olga Kent Nov 2021It’s a place in South Africa where they rescue endangered elephants.
Just 50 years ago, elephants and wildlife used to occupy over 97% of South Africa’s land. Today, because of human exploitation and overpopulation, only 3% of the land remains free for animals. South African elephants are in more danger than ever before.
We have truly experienced an extraordinary moment. Our first encounter with the elephant family at Elephant Whispers was quite stressful, to say the least. We were, 3 women and 6 elephants on our guard, impressed by the presence of the other and It is then that these threatening giants attempted to charge us as an immediate defense reaction. Luckily, Tembo, the 6,5 tons patriarch of the group, quickly understood that 3 weak women were not of any danger and calmed his family down.
As time went by, we lived a real bonding experience with those “gray mountains”. Elephants are incredibly smart and can memorize people and behaviors. They are quite playful too! My beautiful muse, Olga, even managed to communicate with Tembo.
For each image sold, I will personally donate and complete the adoption process of an elephant at Elephant Whispers for you. You will then receive:
- A personal adoption certificate
- Digital weekly updates and videos of the elephant
- Interesting facts and information about elephants
